The Need for Speed with Dr. Filippo Caliceti

My passion for engines is genetic, Dr. Filippo Caliceti says. His father had it, his son has it, and the seconds before the green light are the ones he remembers.

Life as a dentist can be stressful at times, making it important for clinicians to find ways to relax and recharge during their off hours. To inspire you to do just that, we're featuring dentists with "extreme" hobbies. These dentists take their down time seriously and know how important it is to unwind every now and then.

Dr. Filippo Caliceti drives race cars to unwind. He has competed in many different types of races with different types of cars, and has even reached the podium and taken first place a few times. Here, he tells us why he loves to spend his free time driving race cars:

"My passion for car engines is genetic. My father loved them before me and now my son loves them too. The adrenaline is addicting, and the seconds spent waiting before the green light remain the most memorable because the race is over in a flash. I approach dentistry with the same concentration, physical and mental training, readiness and technical preparation as I do racing. The speed frees my mind from stress and recharges my batteries for the following work week. Drive fast because life is short!"

—Dr. Filippo Caliceti, CEO and founder Insmile, Bologna area, Italy
